SUNBAY ENERGY announces strategic cooperation with EUROPLASMA
Toronto, Ontario - Canadian energy developer Sunbay Energy Corporation announced today that it has entered into a strategic cooperation arrangement with Europlasma SA, a global leader in plasma vitrification and gasification.
A cornerstone of the cooperation will be a joint venture to build and operate a series of energy-from-waste facilities based on Europlasma's patented plasma technology. Sunbay is evaluating sites in several Canadian provinces and will announce final site selection for the first facility in Ontario later this month.
Europlasma is one of few actual manufacturers of plasma torches, the integral component of all plasma systems. The company designs and operates complete turn-key facilities such as those to be built in Canada. Their technical leadership draws on an R&D legacy from the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) and the engineering and operational experience of several existing plants in Europe and Japan. Europlasma's technology outperforms other systems across a wide range of environmental, economic and operational comparisons.
Sunbay's Chairman, Kris Mahabir, remarked that "bringing a recognized leader in plasma to Canada has been a tremendous achievement that has created much excitement. With the recent surge of interest in these vital projects worldwide, getting the focus of Europlasma and their partners will accelerate our success with a series of projects here."
Credit Suisse is a major financial backer of Europlasma and will provide equity finance through Europlasma to the projects developed in the joint venture with Sunbay.
Didier Pineau, President of Europlasma, commented that "Canada is an important market well-suited for plasma gasification facilities based on our technology. There is a high level of public interest in clean alternative energy and responsible waste management, and a high degree of acceptance of advanced technologies." He continued that "Sunbay is a perfect fit as our development partner in Canada. We have been impressed with their rapid execution of corporate and project plans and look forward to their becoming a leading developer in this sector."
Sunbay has assembled a top-level management team and prominent Advisory Board that includes several industry leaders, former Cabinet Minister David Tsubouchi and former Deputy Minister of the Environment, Stein Lal. Turtle Island Recycling, one of Ontario's leading waste management companies, has also joined the Advisory Board of Sunbay as part of a strategic cooperation arrangement.
